After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive up to Dochu-la Pass (3,088m / 10,130 ft). This iconic pass is adorned with 108 stupas, known as the Druk Wangyal Chortens, built by the Queen Mother. Take time to admire the chortens, mani walls, and fluttering prayer flags. Afterwards, explore a part of the Royal Botanical Park, Bhutan's first botanical park, beautifully situated as a backdrop to the pass. Continue your journey to Punakha, Bhutan's former capital and still the winter residence of the Chief Abbot. Blessed with a temperate climate and fertile lands nourished by the Pho Chhu (male) and Mo Chhu (female) rivers, Punakha is a popular year-round destination. After lunch, visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong (Palace of Great Happiness). Built in 1637 at the confluence of the Phochhu and Mochhu rivers, this majestic fortress served as both the religious and administrative center of Bhutan. Explore its stunning courtyards and intricate religious statuary, gaining profound insights into Bhutan's spiritual traditions. Conclude your day with a short excursion to Chimi Lhakhang, known as the Temple of Fertility. Situated on a serene hillock amidst rice fields, it's widely believed that prayers here bless couples with children. Enjoy a walk through the charming settlement of Pana, catching glimpses of authentic village life. In the evening, explore the newly developed Wangdue town and its local market.

+ Day 4: Punakha & Wangdue – Rural Charm & Spiritual Interaction

Begin your day with a second visit to the glorious Punakha Dzong, allowing for deeper appreciation of its architectural marvels and rich history. Continue to Chimi Lhakhang, the revered Temple of Fertility, enjoying another peaceful walk through the surrounding rice fields and the quaint village of Pana. Post-lunch, embark on an excursion to Talo Village, famed for its pristine cleanliness and scattered along picturesque hill slopes. Talo is the seat of the mind incarnations of the Zhabdrung, and Talo Sangnacholing Dzong offers majestic views of the surrounding area. Explore the beautiful farmhouses with their vibrant flower gardens and observe the abundant corn and sweet pea fields. Spend time at Nobgang and Talo villages, visiting farmhouses and meeting local families to experience authentic Bhutanese rural life. Also, visit the Nalanda Buddhist Institute (locally known as ‘Dalayna’), a monastic school perched above the Punatsangchu River. Here, you'll have a unique opportunity to interact with monks, gaining knowledge on Buddhist philosophy, meditation processes, and the daily life within a monastic community.

+ Day 5: Punakha & Wangdue to Paro – Fortresses, Museums & Fertile Valleys

After breakfast, enjoy a scenic drive to Paro along a picturesque highway. En route, make a stop at Simtokha Dzong, the country's oldest fortress built in 1627, which now houses a School for Buddhist studies. Upon arrival in Paro, check into your hotel. The beautiful Paro Valley is a treasure trove of rich culture, stunning scenery, and ancient myths. It's home to some of Bhutan’s oldest temples and monasteries, the National Museum, and the country's only international airport. Majestic Mount Chomolhari (7,314m) reigns in white glory at the northern end, its glacial waters forming the Pa Chhu (Paro River). Paro is also one of the most fertile valleys, renowned for its terraced fields producing the famous red rice. Post-lunch, visit Ta Dzong, originally built as a watchtower and now home to the National Museum. Explore its extensive collection of antique thangkha paintings, textiles, weapons, household objects, and a rich assortment of natural and historic artifacts. Immediately after, take a short walk down to Rinpung Dzong (Paro Dzong), meaning "fortress of the heap of jewels." This impressive dzong has a long and fascinating history, with fine wall paintings illustrating Buddhist lore along its inner courtyards. In the evening, enjoy some leisure time exploring the Paro city center and market area.

+ Day 6: Paro – Excursion to Haa Valley & Chelela Pass

After breakfast, embark on a full-day excursion to the enchanting Haa Valley via Chelela Pass. At an elevation of 3,988 meters (13,084 ft), Chelela is considered one of Bhutan's highest motorable passes. The hour-long drive through thickly forested roads is a botanical paradise, offering stunning views of the sacred mountains Jumolhari and Jichu Drake, marked by hundreds of fluttering prayer flags. Haa Valley, located on Bhutan's westernmost edge, shares its northern border with Tibet's Chumbi Valley. Opened to tourism in 2002, Haa remains one of the least populated and most untouched districts, with vast areas covered by dense forests and fertile fields of wheat, barley, and rice. Explore the exotic Haa Valley, beginning with a visit to Lhakhang Karpo (White Temple), established in the 7th century by Tibetan King Songtsen Gempo. Legend says a white pigeon chose this sacred site at the foothills of the "Rigsum Gonpo" mountains. Next, visit Lhakhang Nagpo (Black Temple), also built by King Songtsen Gempo, which serves as the seat for the guardian deity ‘Da Do Chen’ and holds the principal relic of the Choe-Lung-Truel Sum. Both temples stand as guardian sentinels at the southern entrance of Haa Valley. After a day of exploration in Haa, return to Paro in the evening.

+ Day 7: Paro – Iconic Tiger's Nest & Ancient Temples

After breakfast, prepare for a fascinating and challenging excursion to Taktshang Monastery, famously known as Tiger’s Nest (approximately a 5-hour round trip walk). This iconic monastery is one of Bhutan’s most sacred sites, dramatically perched on the side of a cliff 900m (2,950 ft) above the Paro Valley floor. It's believed that Guru Rinpoche arrived here on the back of a tigress, giving the monastery its legendary name. Though severely damaged by fire in 1998, this "Bhutanese jewel" has been meticulously restored to its original splendor, making it a once-in-a-lifetime pilgrimage for many. Late afternoon, drive to the base of Drukgyel Dzong, a 17th-century fortress now in ruins. From here, you can often see the snowy dome of sacred Chomolhari, the "mountain of goddess." You'll also get to see a beautiful, typical Bhutanese farmhouse—colorful, decorative, and traditionally built without a single nail, reflecting how the majority of the population still lives amidst terraced fields. On your drive back to Paro town, make a stop at the 7th-century Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the 108 temples built in the Himalayas by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo, marking the introduction of Buddhism in Bhutan.

+ Day 8: Depart Paro

After a final breakfast at your hotel, our representative will assist you with exit formalities before bidding you a warm farewell as you transfer to Paro International Airport for your onward flight, taking with you cherished memories of the Kingdom of Bhutan.
